Cook came before the public eye in the state elections in 1934 when he was the only Republican to win a major state office. Last summer Cook's name was frequently on the front pages of local newspapers. He charged that the state primaries were the worst in years so far as forgeries, irregularities, and actual fraudulent practices were concerned. Secretary Cook is also the author of "Massachusetts Voter." In 1936 he repeated his 1934 triumph by an even wider margin demonstrating his hold on the independent vote...
...work. Thus it was a fine organization which Tom Pendergast handed over to his nephew James.- The various indictments charged local election officials with fraudulent vote counts, erasing and changing ballots; a precinct captain was indicted for intimidating a grand jury witness. The rise has actually been greater than apparent because building mechanics in Depression...
Viewed from the vantage point of three thousand miles, away from the guns and targets of local politics, "The New Deal", as written by these London editors, is doubtless a highly authoritative and unbiased judgment of the last four years of American history. Perhaps the most convincing phase of their treatment is the plentiful supply of factual material and indices. Information which we have long been wanting to see assembled together, and for which we should have had to scurry all over the country, has been made an integral part of the Administration analysis...
