Jerry has been hanging up his own kind of fishing records for years. Last summer at the Wisconsin State Fair, he hooked ten in ten minutes (prize: a week's vacation). In last year's Sentinel show he won a $2,500 log cabin (which he traded to an uncle for a 1951 Ford convertible), plus a week's canoe trip and another vacation at a northern Wisconsin resort where he and a pal caught 72 wall-eyed pike in 3½ days...

West Virginia's Bailey led off: "Mr. Speaker, once again the duly elected members of the House find themselves under a threat of an undemocratic and un-American gag-rule procedure." The House seats began to fill up. Republican Leader Joe Martin slouched back in his place, a forefinger pushed up on his temple. Beside...

Until World War II, Ranger McCullough's duties were mainly janitorial. He fought fires, built roads and telephone lines, kept a sharp eye out for log rustlers, and was lonely and bored during the long winters. By the early 19405 the ancient European practice of tree farming and sustained-yield forest crops had infiltrated the U.S. consciousness. The colleges were turning out eager young foresters who were more interested in timber management than in sparing the old pine tree...
