Last April, amid the green-and-orange color scheme of Loker Commons, the admissions office held a reception for students admitted to Harvard under the HFAI program. Byerly representatives were on hand to distribute white T-shirts with “HFAI” written across the back in large red letters. A table of crackers and cookies welcomed the couple dozen students milling about, comparing notes on their prefrosh experiences. ...seriously. Instead, we must rely upon the University to lobby on our behalf, and they should favor Felipe’s petition for later closing hours. The administration has already recognized undergraduates’ need for late night snack options in their planning for the Lamont café and Loker pub. But here, administrators have an enormous opportunity to reach out to a campus institution, a move that would also garner good will among the student population. At the very least, the University should make it a priority to improve House grilles and brain breaks. There is clearly enormous demand...

Extended party hours, the recent decision by the UC to fund “super parties,” and the changes being made to Loker Commons are all steps towards much-needed alternatives: accessible, larger social spaces that can accommodate greater numbers of students as well as room for both dancing and conversation...

The addition of an open-late food venue in the midst of the Yard will be like switching on a giant undergrad electromagnet. Together with Loker Pub, these two student spaces will once more make the Yard area a viable place to gather at all hours...
