Alerted by a lookout tower, Forest Ranger Ronald Brickhouse rushed to a rural logging road five miles south of Columbia, N.C., to investigate a brushfire. Brickhouse arrived at the scene and discovered what looked like a small blaze, burning away with no apparent cause. Dave Liebman and his group Lookout Farm will be staying the week at the Jazz Workshop. When Liebman first started attracting attention with some fine tenor work on Elvin Jones's Live at the Lighthouse, Jones had the audacity to claim that Liebman would be the heir to Coltrane. He's not, but he's damn good, and if his group doesn't play with an overdose of electricity then this saxophonist/music teacher will present a fine weekend jazz alternative...
