Haig's warnings may apply to for-profit medical insurance and hospitals, but there are alternatives. In my HMO, Kaiser Permanente, medical decisions are made by doctors. Medical records have been online for years. Copays are low, and there are no cutoffs for the cost of surgery, hospitalization or other care. Prescription drugs are covered.
