...more fairness in the selection of the leading crews. Coaches Herrick and Haines decided to spend most of their time with the University boats and the first 1919 crews but to devote. Monday of each week to the whole Freshman squad exclusively. At first the stroke was set very low, with the idea of getting the men to work together at the start of practice, four University eights were picked and the remainder divided into six club crews--there Eliot and three Thayer. In this way the men worked most of the season. Coach Haines took charge of the morning...

...Your article on 'Low-Brown' in a recent Bulletin has my attention, and I want to write and say that I agree entirely with the CRIMSON. Since College days I have seen much of the undergraduates both in a financial and social way, and I feel that their conversation is painfully deficient. ...field events will be the five customary ones but the Freshmen will throw a twelve-pound hammer. On the track there will be no 220-yard dash or 220-yard hurdle race. The Freshmen will run a 120-yard low hurdle race instead of a high hurdle race. The other events will be the same as usual except that a three-mile run will be substituted for a two-mile run. This is designed to make the cross-country teams' practice a feature of the games. The order and times of events will be announced later...

Coach Herrick followed the four University crews on short spins in the Pup; and Coach Haines, instructed the first three. Freshman crews from the John Harvard yesterday afternoon. The stroke was kept low, particular emphasis being laid on getting the men together at a comparatively low yet powerful stroke. From present indications the season will be the most successful in the history of fall rowing...
