...Kunstlied (art song) Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau has not recorded in that mellifluous, burnished voice, it is not worth the vinyl. He has of late taken up conducting, and his lyric versions of Schubert's Symphonies Nos. 5 and 8 ("Unfinished") can be found on an Angel LP. Yet Fischer-Dieskau has found the time and talent for a new career: literature. Last year he produced Wagner and Nietzsche, a lively account of the celebrated battle of composer and philosopher...

George Benson: In Flight (Warner Bros.). One record can make a man rich for the rest of his life. Breezin', Benson's 1976 LP, turned the trick for the guitarist-singer. He took the premier spot on the jazz, rock, soul and easy-listening charts. His name began cropping up on network TV. George bought a Mercedes. He was a star. How did success affect his music? ...funny, highly intelligent and touching. How many novelists are any of the three? He has resources, and he uses all of them in pursuit of goals most novelists would not dare attempt. He has had his novel illustrated by not one but two artists. If he could stick an LP by a Vermont fiddler to the jacket and impregnate the binding with the smell of hay and apples-and maybe marijuana-he would do that too. He wants it all. There are writers today who can do one thing as well as Gardner. But with October Light, the question must...
