Highlands pitched a very steady effective game. It was hard luck for him that Amherst scored her two runs in the fourth. With no one out, Hunt and Steans on safe hits made third and second. The next two men were out on weak bunts to the infield, but Landis, after two strikes were called, placed a lucky hit safely over Abbott's head, and the two runs came...
Will the managers of the Whist Tournament allow a suggestion as to the manner of determining the winning two couples from each section? Two methods have been proposed, but both are opened to objection. If the decision is made on the basis of games won, the element of luck is unnecessarily large. A couple might lose two games and win the other. If they had kept their opponents' score down and made the most of their good cards, when they did come, they ought to reap the advantage...

Another paper of reminiscent interest is a charming essay by Mr. H. C. Merwin, "On Growing Old;" while Dr. William Henry Furness offers some "Random Reminiscences of Emerson," which throw new light on the personality...
Gray was the victim of the vicious talking this time, but he was equal to the occasion, and Harvard got 5 yards for the play, and the ball was down in the middle of the field. Brewer did not have such good luck, however, and was hurt in the blocking off for his partner. After a minute's rest, however, he came up smiling to his work again...
