Usage:

...stealing Lorraine's jewels, which he eventually does. Lorraine then orders Goose to kill him. After giving Bingo one last chance to see his sister, Goose leads him outside to be shot. Shots are heard, and the stage plunges into darkness. Though the voices of Goose, Tom-Tom and Lulu can be heard, whether or not they are still alive remains unanswered...

...members of the cast deliver lines with an apt sense of timing, particularly Rabbit and Heawood, both of whose differently-toned platitudes can be very funny. Perhaps the only sore spot lies in the admittedly difficult role of Lulu (Abigail Gray), a friendly neighbor whom Goldberg seduces. While she seems to exist only as one more way in which Goldberg can menace Stanley--sexually--Gray comes across as somewhat more awkward than necessary...

...divans, lipstick applicators, dromedary-branded cigarettes and filling stations with Pegasus insignias effectively evoke 1950s America. And the uninhibited, vocally exemplary performance of the title role by soprano Lisa Gustafsson, 25, partly redeems the evening. She becomes the much younger, equally alluring sister of such operatic sirens as Carmen, Lulu and Katerina Ismailova. If only, like them, she had something to sing...
