As a result, the plotlines are more tangled and fantastic. And while some might delight in the sociopathic psyche, the long passages about lurid homicidal thoughts and sweaty erections occasionally teem with overkill. Arguing in the name of "the children" is an irresistible device, and Republicans have no monopoly on it. (They would have to pry it from Hillary Clinton's cold, dead hands.)
