...While raucous nightlife isn't Tainan's big lure, you'll see religion practiced on a scale that easily outpaces the capital. More than 200 temples-Taoist, Buddhist, Confucian-are tucked into lanes and alleys amid the high-rises, each offering its own brand of salvation. Pray for fair judgment in the afterlife at the City God Temple, where two giant abacuses tally good deeds versus bad, or plead for high exam scores at the Confucius Temple, the island's oldest. Festivals celebrating temple gods' birthdays are several-day affairs here, their likenesses paraded through the streets on palanquins, urged...

Rule No. 2: Expand your consumer base. Do movie companies try to lure 11-, 13-, 15-year-olds to their violent movies? Of course: that age group is their prime market. And with the Internet, it's easy and cheap to do. If the Saws and Hostels were never seen by young teens, they'd lose a big slice of their audience...

That's why horror films don't need stars. One letter sells the movie: R (meaning kids are restricted from seeing it unless accompanied by an adult). Another lure is the MPAA description of offensive elements, like this one for Saw III: "strong grisly violence and gore, sequences of terror and torture, nudity and language." ...voters give us. They're all generally the same, especially on a fundamental issue they all agree on and we don't: Europe. As the 2005 defeat of the referendum on the European constitution shows, the French people share our positions, not theirs. Elsewhere, Madame Royal is struggling to lure the extreme left behind her; Sarkozy tries to seduce our voters with Le Pen positions while trying to demonize Le Pen; and Bayrou keeps flipping to the left when attacking the right, then flopping to the right as he takes on the left. It matters very little which of these...

...accessing the Internet. By 2010, 70 million Asians are expected to be watching videos and TV programs on handsets. All of these activities give advertisers fresh options for reaching audiences. During soccer's World Cup last summer, for example, Adidas used real-time scores, highlight reels and games to lure thousands of fans to a website set up for mobile-phone access. "Our target audience was males ages 17 to 25," says Marcus Spurrell, Adidas regional new-media manager for Asia. "Their mobiles are always on, always in their pocket-you just can't ignore [cell phones] as an advertising...
