...young Mrs. Churchill spent the rest of her 20s and 30s spinning around the London-Paris-Antibes social orbit, bedding other wealthy and powerful men. They included journalist Edward R. Murrow and Italian mogul Gianni Agnelli, whom Ogden describes -- Jackie Collins-style -- as looking "so luscious" to Harriman when they first met that "her knees trembled." Ultimately, Agnelli, a lothario, refused to marry her, which hurt Harriman deeply...

Technically, "Sex and Zen" is a accomplished and quite beautiful. Deep-hued silk billows extravagantly around the suitable pulchritudinous actors in just about every scene. Peter Ngor's camera creates a luscious surface of vivid colors and careful compositions that does full justice to Raymond Lee's sets and art direction. However, the film's visual beauty and the amusing acrobatics in some of the scenes fail to distract one from the cruelty of the era the movie depicts. Their customers admire themselves in full-length mirrors, examining the cut and style of a vintage piece. An earth-toned flannel shirt and matching hunting jacket are prominently displayed together as one of the many luscious combinations to be assembled from the racks. Pearly costume jewelry is carefully arranged in a long glass cabinet. Whenever the front door opens, the traffic of Newbury Street disturbs the tranquility of the bright store...

...bride in Red Sorghum or the balky mistress in Red Lantern, Gong has brought life and body to the director's ethereal cinema style. The Story of Qiu Ju relies even more on her personality than the team's earlier films. There Gong was swathed in luscious silks and period exoticism; here, in a glamourless contemporary role, she is swaddled in a down parka and saddled with a story whose contours are evident from the start. The drama is all in her dark eyes, where the fire of rebellion burns...
