...plot revolves around the loyalties of the three persons involved. The young man (Ben Lyon) wants to marry the actress. He is unable to do so because he owes a debt of gratitude to her lover (Lewis Stone). These complications are resolved when the older man retires from the situation in a Monte Carlo setting. He is last seen standing on the deck of his yacht, drinking a toast to the young man and the actress who remain ashore...

Though long known to his intimates, it first became known to the public, in which are many thieves, that genial Professor William Lyon Phelps of Yale leaves the door of his New Haven home unlocked, so that friends may come in and borrow the books he is sent for review, of which there are several hundred stacked on a table adjacent. An old red setter named Rufus (which color-blind Dr. Phelps says he sees march about as a green dog) guards the books, knows the patrons of this "lending library," barks at the approach of any unaccustomed person...

Gleyre was born at Chevilly of French Swiss origin in 1806 and died in Paris in 1874. His early training was begun in Lyon, where he studied under an artist named Bounefond and in 1825 he went to Paris to begin his major training. In 1828 he travelled in Italy, copying Giotto frescoes in Padus, visiting Florence and Rome. In the latter places he spent four years, and in the year 1833 was represented as an exhibitor in the Paris' Salon...
