...Rakofsky (drums) and Sara Zelle '03 (vocals). The tight ensemble work, sharp guitar playing and Zelle's stunning vocals brought life to the songs. Zelle's voice was both plaintive and powerful, injecting passion into lyrics such as "Baby, don't ask me to carry your weight" (from "I'm Here," the opening song). The band also played a superb arrangement of U2's "With or Without You," with Liebman's piano work creating a haunting backdrop to Zelle's growling, husky vocals. Thank goodness for folks like Shai M. Sachs '01. This past Sunday, Sachs, along with 23 other student representatives, voted to keep "Radcliffe" in the name of the Undergraduate Council. While Sachs presumably understands that Radcliffe no longer exists as an undergraduate institution, he told The Crimson that his vote was a protest against the neglect of women's rights on campus. He explained, "Female students are still at a big disadvantage, the administration hasn't done anything to fight discrimination...

...choice to portray Tom Ripley as a gay man is risky, and not only for Matt Damon's career. As a man capable of murder on a bad day (don't worry, I'm not really giving anything away), a gay Thomas Ripley might become some terrible variation on the mythic self-hating homosexual serial killed--a queasy Andrew Cunanan done up in old-fashioned clothes. But the change actually produces all kinds of new tensions that deepen the emotional weight of the story. Tom's confused sexuality is just another expression of his place outside the privileged world...
