...that I was "cashiered" from the Naval Service is unfounded and derogatory to my character and reputation. The term "cashiered" definitely implies that severance from the Service was the result of dishonorable misconduct. I resigned from the U. S. Navy in February in 1929 to enter the employ of Maddux Airlines a Manager of Operations. Attached hereto is a copy of the Secretary of the Navy's letter dated 28 December 1928 accepting my resignation...

...very, very pretty Betty Lawford is a bit cinematic as the defeated tart and Frances Maddux does well although her main talent for singing naughty ballads is quite dragged in by the heels. Jane Bancroft (one of the local debbies) does rather nicely as Ella, the serving girl--a democratizing experience, no doubt. John Root's stage so is a magnificent variation on the duplex apartment idea...

First tri-motor to cross the Rockies in regular passenger service, it was originally bought by John Maddux for his Los Angeles-San Francisco airline, later by T. A. T.-Maddux for transcontinental service. Placed in Penn Station as a living advertisement for air travel, it had long ago ceased to be anything more than a curio.
