When Belgium assumed control of the region in 1916, it was called Ruanda-Urundi, two kingdoms of similar ethnic makeup--some 85% Hutu, 14% Tutsi and 1% Twa. Under the rule of a godlike Tutsi King, unquestioned by all ethnic groups, each nation had achieved a measure of cohesion rare in Africa at the time. While Tutsi dominated society, intermarriage was common, Hutu and Tutsi spoke the same language, and each fought side by side in wars against neighboring kingdoms...

...outlines of "The Nutty Professor" go back to our old pal(s) Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and, more specifically, the Jerry Lewis classic by the same name. In this version, however, the professor, Sherman Klump (Eddie Murphy, thanks to seamless makeup) consumes a formula that cures both the excessive frumpiness and (in a twist on the original film) lumpiness that he believes might hamper his success with an attractive young grad student (Jada Pinkett). There is no conscious movement here, just a work in progress. Yet combined, these disparate voices reach a mighty throng. Sociologist Paul Ray, who has been studying the makeup of the self-help and healing movements for eight years, calls the eager listeners "Cultural Creatives"--some 44 million strong, 60% women, mostly middle and upper class, with auxiliary interests in ecology and women's issues. Others suggest that they have already been named: they are the baby boomers, who happen to have begun turning 50 this year and are looking for ways to face their mortality...

What this meant was that Harvard never had consistency. With all the injuries (along with Olson, junior co-captain Dave Cho missed most of the year with arm troubles) and lineup switches, the Crimson was never able to get a firm foothold on the makeup of the team. It was almost like the team had to mentally begin the season every couple of weeks...
