There's a soundtrack that goes with the book. Why did you decide to make that? I wanted to change the way the novel was presented. We looked at all the different formats we could do and the audio book was extremely exciting to me. I read the novel onto something like seven CDs and we scored it and put music to the whole thing. If you listen to it on headphones it's extraordinary, like a hallucination or something. It's psychedelic. It's an audio book like nothing you've ever heard. There's also a Bunny Munro...
...have two bands with the same members in them. We had too many people in the Bad Seeds. I kept trying to make songs that were leaner, had less going on in them. But it was difficult, there was a whole bunch of people in the studio and everyone had some idea of what they wanted to do. The Lyre of Orpheus record was this massive juggernaut of sound because we had eight people playing each song. I wanted something rawer and leaner so I got a few members of the band together and we did this record, Grinderman, which...
...Brazilian folk song for which Will Holt had written new lyrics, gave them their first hit. It was followed by Seeger and Lee Hays' "If I Had a Hammer." The group changed the phrase "all my brothers" to the more ecumenical "my brothers and my sisters" and helped make the number an anthem for the decade's civil-rights movement. Their rendition was a highlight of the 1963 March on Washington; another was Martin Luther King Jr.'s delivery of his "I Have a Dream" speech. Unlike the studiously apolitical Kingston Trio, PP&M attached their celebrity to progressive causes...
...could mental-health problems actually exacerbate acne? One theory is that people with mental distress eat more junk food. Dearly held teen lore says that overindulging in chocolate and potato chips - which can make greasy fingers and, consequently, greasy faces - spawns pimples. This is mostly myth, according to the study's findings, although they offered a bit of support for the notion that diet plays a role. Girls in the study who consumed few vegetables tended to have more zits than girls who ate lots of greens. But diet was entirely irrelevant for boys...
...Oberon (Heather Gordon) uses his Mercury-inspired roller-skating assistant Dr. Wheelgood (Scotty Morgan)—Puck, from the original—to drug his girlfriend Tytania (Rebecca Whitehurst). The scantily-clad disco-diva then falls in love with the local duo of car wash clowns, who make “asses” of themselves while under the influence of Wheelgood’s special concoction. Similarly love-poisoned are Dmitri (Lucille Duncan) and Sander (Rebecca Whitehurst), who both fall for Helen (Erin McShane), leaving Sander’s lover Mia (Gordon) all alone. Bestiality, chaos, and disco...
