...what begins as confusion wavers and then diminishes into the reality: “Antichrist” is an embarrassment audacious enough to reassure only a man like Lars Von Trier. A self-styled radical better known for narrative transgression and the outmoded Dogme 95 manifesto than any one particular film, Von Trier reveals himself finally and totally in “Antichrist” as the spoiled child of the art house: an auteur who insists that his films merely stand as pieces around which he himself can be discussed. In so blatantly passing off exploitation...

...started when Medvedev surprised the nation by initiating a fresh debate over the state of democracy in Russia. In a breach of the usual Kremlin protocol, Medvedev wrote a policy paper - a liberal manifesto of sorts - that was published in September on the independent news website gazeta.ru. It was seen by many to be a groundbreaking document. Although Medvedev did not criticize Putin overtly - that would have been political suicide - he did lament Russia's isolationism, its vulnerable economy and its "negative democratic tendencies," all jabs at the authoritarian political system that Putin cultivated during his eight years as President...

The Virginia Representative is starting small, searching out building blocks on which all Republicans - moderate and conservative - can agree. For example, Cantor notes that state unemployment burdens are expected to double from $30 billion in 2009 to more than $60 billion in 2012, resulting in what he says will be a doubling of business taxes from $250 to $500 per worker per year by 2012. "Eric's correct...

High-fructose corn syrup poses a threat beyond simple health concerns. Michael Pollan, renowned author of “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” and “In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto,” notes in the Washington Post that the substance “may be cheap in the supermarket, but in the environment it could not be more expensive.” The American corn industry, which produces grain en masse, relies on monoculture: growing one crop on the same land year after year, which depletes soil...

...saving the planet, throwing eggs at a car dealership is a pretty dumb idea. It's even more stupid when your terrorist manifesto warning of retribution for "perpetuating the ignorant use of fossil fuels" is written on the back of the grocery receipt for said eggs. Such was the mistake of the four adults who egged a Toyota dealership near Moscow, Idaho, in May 2009. Police used the receipt to obtain store surveillance footage, which led to the four wannabes' arrest on vandalism charges...
