Bernard Leman is amusing as the ineffectual, newly-in-charge Corporal Billy Jester who looks to the forest ranger's manual for the answer to every question. As Jester's heart throb, the flirtatious Nancy Twinkle, Robin Leidner steals more than the corporal's heart. Her "Mata Hari" scene is worth seeing all by itself...

Many steps came straight from the ballet manual. Others have never been seen before: Misha's good-natured fanny squeeze-his own derrière-and a figure in which Yankee Doodle scoops up Sarry to ring the Liberty Bell. Compression and speed obscured some of the complexity of the choreography. Baryshnikov, as always, appeared to be dancing steps as they occurred to him. Occasionally Feld overreached. When the orchestra struck up a flourish reminiscent of the old Pathé newsreel finale, Baryshnikov lofted Sarry high in a grand one-handed Kirov lift. Majestically, he floated...

...readers, is about "how the power game is played, and who are the winners." In or out of print, there has been no abler exponent of the Felkerian philosophy than the ingenious Felker himself. From its first issue of April 8,1968, his avenue-smart urban-survival one-upmanship manual has exerted an influence far beyond its current 375,000 circulation and Manhattan bailiwick. Though it is frequently footling and vulgar, the weekly's intelligence and imaginative thrust have given its aggressive boss the money-power to take over the raffish, rambunctious Village Voice in 1974 and, last year...

...this hardly destroys Brown-Beasley's basic dispute. The facts of his case suggest quite strongly not only that Harvard erred in his dismissal but also that the personnel manual provides insufficient protection for salaried employees. It seems arbitrary, for example, for Harvard to cite the "very serious offenses" clause when other disciplinary rules in the manual state...
