...recent weeks al-Qaeda operatives have been looking around for an Islamic publisher for a manuscript titled Cavaliers Under the Prophet's Banner. The book is said to be a mission statement that al-Zawahiri completed just before Sept. 11. The physician turned terrorist seems determined to leave his testament and inspirational manual, shaped by Qutb's work, to future generations. Ayman al-Zawahiri has never been one to think small...
...written over my two years in Iowa. I started writing it the day I arrived, and I stopped revising the manuscript the day I left. It started out as a piece that was looking back on a long, terrible relationship. And then other subjects came in. Because I was experimenting with very long lines, the poems became elegiac in tone, that is, they were about loss: of innocence, of childhood, of community. Tea is a bleak, flat landscape...
Despite lost sleep and technical crises, we made the deadline; 600 copies of Varieties of Black Experience at Harvard were bound and distributed at the 350th anniversary celebration. In short, says Jacquard, the manuscript is an al-Qaeda handbook. "What's really significant about this is the timing," Jacquard notes. "Bombs...
...Rights Alert reports that a book signed two years ago at The Free Press on Islamic fundamentalist leader Osama bin Laden is being moved up from next spring to November, with author Peter Bergen working on last-minute changes to bring his manuscript up to date. The book, "Holy War: Inside the Secret World of Osama bin Laden" will be ready to crash to stores six weeks from now. Bergen is an analyst of terrorism for CNN, and one of the few Westerners ever to interview bin Laden, which he did in 1997. He has been studying...
