Still, it's hard to truly hate cover versions. I feel anything that brings a good song back to attention is a good thing, even if the cover is execrable (hello, Sheryl Crow). Marilyn Manson is going to cover "Suicide is Painless"-the theme song to M*A*S*H-on the soundtrack to the Blair Witch Project sequel. Is it just me, or is the whole Manson thing way too tired? But it's a great song, so bleak ("Suicide is painless/It brings on many changes/And I can take or leave it as I please") that the lyrics...
...record labels certainly disagree, and they have sought an injunction to shut down Napster, which U.S. District Judge Marilyn Patel granted in July. Although it was immediately stayed by federal appeals judges, the same injunction will be ruled on by a federal court as early as next week. ...action by Harvard to restrict Napster access at this point would also be premature. The illegality of the service itself has still not been established; the file-sharing software is content-neutral and has significant legal uses. Although U.S. District Judge Marilyn Hall Patel has found Napster to be liable for copyright infringement and issued an injunction against the service, this injunction has been stayed until the appeal can be heard by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals this October. It would be foolish for the University to block access to a service that is currently legal to operate. Should...
