...afternoon the work was harder. The University and Freshman eights rowed downstream together in easy stretches as far as the 2 1-2 mile mark. The crews then turned around and started back with the Freshmen slightly in the lead. The crews remained in about the same relative position for some distance, when the Freshmen started to draw ahead and gained a quarter of a boat length. Farley then raised his stroke and the crews raced for a quarter of a mile. The University eight spaced well and finished a half a length in the lead. The University four...
...June 16, 1907.-Yesterday morning the university eight held another time row, going upstream over smooth water, in the time of 22 minutes and 37 seconds. The men showed a tendency to rush their slides and to get out of unison on settling down to their stroke, after it had been raised, but this was much improved toward...

The eight went out again in the afternoon after the four-oar practice, and rowed downstream in one stretch until opposite the two-mile mark by the Navy Yard. After a rest the shell was rowed back. The men seem gradually to be getting together better, but Faulkner was erratic in slide control, and Fish particularly slow in starting his hands away after the recovery...
