Mr. Tower is the author of "The Marquis de Lafayette in the American Revolution." He is a member of a number of learned societies, and holds the degree of LL.D. from Lafayette College, the University of Chicago, and the University of Glasgow.

President Eliot has been appointed Grand Officer of the Order of the Crown of Italy by King Victor Enumanuel. The news of the appointment reached the President yesterday through Marquis Bruno, the Italian consul in Boston. The official insignia of the office, however, have not yet been received.
