...Mar. 28, 1979, safety systems of the Three Mile Island nuclear generating plant malfunctioned resulting in the country's worst civilian nuclear accident. Radiation leaked into the surrounding area and for several days a core meltdown seemed imminent. Besides being a confirmation of the worst fears of nuclear power's foes, Three Mile Island may also mark the end of nuclear power as The Alternative to coal and oil. Though it seems unlikely that a federal ban on nuclear power plants will come out of any subsequent investigations, local governments and citizens' groups will have a lot of ammunition...
...under-developed sub-plot of servants and their affairs obliquely satirizes the main plot, but it cannot offset the blunders. Lightning quick changes in character, contradictions swept aside with the wave of a hand, and outright lame poetry seriously mar this work. Given such a weak vessel, the Boston Company can be forgiven much, but their unimaginative and overly simplistic approach does little to salvage this play...
...President's Men; the T.V. studio and control room were from a real Los Angeles station. (Fonda's anchorman was played by an L.A. anchorman apparantly well-versed in the "Happy News" style.) The plot is well-crafted, and doesn't fall into the predictable action cliches that mar most current action/suspense films...

On the eve of the President's arrival, four Palestinian terrorists, armed with Soviet-made Kalashnikov automatic rifles, were intercepted as they slipped across the Jordan River about 30 miles northeast of Jerusalem. Their purpose apparently was to mar Carter's visit by seizing some Israelis and holding them hostage to exchange for the release of imprisoned Palestinians. The Israeli military patrol that discovered them at about midnight killed all four infiltrators in a brief gun battle...
