...spectators were especially eager to see the performance of Joan Tozzer, 17, defending champion, and Audrey Peppe, 20, who lost the title last year by the heart-breaking margin of 1 10 of a point. Joan Tozzer, blueblood, blonde daughter of Harvard's Anthropology Professor Alfred Marston Tozzer, is a letter-perfect skater of school figures (which count two-thirds in determining a national champion). But close on her white-shod heels (517.5 points) was vivacious, Audrey Peppe (pronounced peppy) of Manhattan. So eager is Miss Peppe to follow the figure-eights of her aunt, Beatrix Loughran, who held the title in 1925-26-27, that she went abroad last summer to study under Sonja Henie's skating instructor...

Few months later a bigger piece, the left parietal bone, was discovered. In his latest report to Nature Dr. Marston stated that his skull is more primitive in a number of points-including a lower and more sloping vault, "flat ruggedness and non-filled out contours"-than the skull of the Piltdown man, and therefore that the Swanscombe man should be assigned his rightful place as England's oldest oldster...
