Died. Lieut. General Sir Frank Noel Mason MacFarlane, K.C.B., 63, one of Britain's ablest soldier-administrators; of arthritis and complications from a broken leg; in Twyford, England. Four times decorated in World War I, Mason MacFarlane headed British intelligence in France when World War II began. After the 1940 German breakthrough in Belgium, he mustered a hodgepodge "Mac Force" of rear-echelon troops and led a fighting retreat to Dunkirk.
