...does Al Gore. That's one reason Lieberman found himself in Nashville last week being introduced by Gore as his running mate. Quite a stretch from four years ago, when Lieberman spoke at the Democratic Convention but was wrongly introduced as a Senator from New Jersey. There's a funny political symmetry at work this year. The Republicans threw a Democratic Convention, all about compassion and tolerance and inclusiveness. Those are words that just begin...

...will really be tested is what happens to Gore's campaign with the addition of a man like Lieberman, a Democrat who was happy to mention God more than a dozen times in the first minute of that Nashville rally. Gore really did gamble in his choice of running mate. Simply because he's Jewish, Lieberman could be too Jewish for the anti-Semites. ...roll-call vote that will formally nominate her father. The gauzy biographical film touting Gore as the man from Carthage will be vetted by her; her pen will edit the remarks of both the Vice President and Tipper Gore. And when Senator Joseph Lieberman, Gore's running mate, shows up to take his place, you can be certain that she weighed in on the decision to put him there...

At the convention he surprised nearly everyone by choosing a black woman as his running mate. Ezola Foster, a former Los Angeles schoolteacher, seemed the antidote to accusations that Buchanan isn't inclusive. And it also seemed right for this Summer of Love as the G.O.P. reaches out to minorities and Al Gore broke barriers by picking Joe Lieberman. But upon closer inspection, it was hard to see how the all-but-unheard-of Foster could energize Buchanan...
