What happens when they find it is another matter. Right now, Greenland and Denmark have 50-50 rights to profits from Greenland's natural resources. Securing full rights to administer the oil, gas and minerals harvested from their land and water has been a recurring theme among Greenlanders who want greater sovereignty, but talks about whether the territory will take over sole rights are currently stalled. And in August Denmark sent a crew of some 40 scientists on a technically unprecedented mission to explore whether a ridge beneath the North Pole was geologically linked to their territory...

"He was a nobody until he represented O.J. on a case that never should have gone to trial," says one Miami-based prosecutor who asked not to be named, referring to the road-rage case, adding "almost anybody could have won that." In an interview in the Financial Times this week, he said: "The right to a higher education cannot be restricted because of what a girl wears. There is no such problem in Western societies. I believe it is the first duty of those in politics to solve this problem." Altinay, at the Open Society, cautioned that Erdogan would be wise to try to convince secularists about need for the changes and not use his majority carelessly...

...fight in Washington over who likes the troops more. Policymakers actually cannot ethically and rationally rely on sentimental "support our troops" arguments, since the reality of American politics is the opposite: The troops are bound by law and their sense of honor to support American policy - no matter how wrong-headed the decisions American citizens make through their legislators. Soldiers and Marines will march into hell for their country, and have done so on many occasions over the past 230 years. This is even truer in the volunteer military, where disgruntled draftees have been replaced by a force in which...
