...five mile race immediately followed, in which five contestants appeared - Messrs. Sabin and Hosmer of Boston, Maverick and Hemenway of the H. B. C. and Bickford of Somerville. Mr. Hosmer took the lead almost at the start, and for the first mile the order was Hosmer, maverick, Sabin, Hemenway, Bickford, the contestants being so close that the wheels almost lapped. Bickford dropped out on the second lap of the second mile, and shortly after Maverick met with an accident and retired. ...best race of the afternoon was the three mile event, which closed the programme. There were four contestants - Messrs. Norton, Maverick and Hemenway of Harvard, and Hitchcock of Andover. Hemenway got off first with a good lead. Maverick again dropped out owing to trouble with the seat of his machine.
