AFTER many days, the question of the Freshman race with Cornell is happily settled. The crew is now in fine condition, and since a positive decision has been reached, the subscriptions to pay their expenses have increased daily. We may therefore hope for a successful race; but whether the Freshmen win or not, they still deserve to be congratulated on the victory they have won over their own apathy. In conclusion, we offer them our best wishes for all sorts of good fortune in the future, and a little more prudence...

...Morgan's, having learned the intention of the "sporting column" to give a cup for some contest, have decided to offer a subscription cup of the value of twenty-five dollars for a half-mile race, to be held at such time and place as the Athletic Association may appoint. Mr. Griswold and Mr. W. Hooper of '80 started the cup-subscription. We would, however, suggest to these gentlemen to divide the money, and give fifteen dollars for a half and ten dollars for a quarter-mile cup. ...last moment we hear with pleasure that the Athletic Association will hold a meeting on Friday afternoon, May 24, at Beacon Park. Sufficient time is given to enable men to train well and get into good condition; and since the prizes are to be of value, we hope to see the events performed creditably. As the Athletic Association desires to be represented at the Intercollegiate games at Mott Haven on May 18, there will be trial-races on May 16 at Beacon Park to select those who will be sent on to represent the College.
