Died. Edward C. Kendall, 86, biochemist who, with two colleagues, shared a 1950 Nobel Prize for the discovery of cortisone; in Rahway, N.J. After joining the Mayo Clinic in 1914, Kendall succeeded in isolating thyroxine from the thyroid glands of cattle, a development of importance to patients whose growth had been stunted by hormonal deficiencies.
