...just picks and chooses what’s most popular.” Throughout the debate, Currier House residents punctuated Palin’s responses with shouts and sarcastic remarks about her vocabulary usage, accent, and deflection of questions. Last night Palin focused on her experience as a former-mayor and governor of Alaska to answer questions posed to her, particularly with regards to energy policy, which she called her “area of expertise.” Palin also hailed her family background and “outsider” status in Washington...
...hard-won, and it may not last. California, and in particular San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom, have been fighting for gay marriage since 2004, when Newsom ordered the county clerk to begin issuing licenses to same-sex couples. Martin and Lyon were the first married then, as well, but their marriage was invalidated along with 3,954 others when the state Supreme Court ruled that Newsom had overstepped his authority in ordering the licenses issued. With America's financial cathedrals crumbling around him, the billionaire mayor of its biggest city made a power play. A third Bloomberg administration would be forced to confront massive challenges, not the least of which would be steering the city through the fallout from Wall Street's implosion while coping with budget cuts. Even...
...Scott Heyworth was back in Wasilla, eating pancakes in the mayor's breakfast room next to her husband Todd as they discussed her plans to run for governor. Palin was weighing whether to run as an Independent or a Republican, Heyworth recalls. His ballot initiative had passed in 2002, and he was in a good position to help either way. He organized a Palin fund raiser and turned over the names of 42,000 voters, largely independents who had signed his petitions...
