PHILADELPHIA, PA., Nov. 9, 1901. Harvard and Pennsylvania met on Franklin Field this afternoon for their annual football game. It was a beautiful day for the great contest and an immense crowd of spectators was within the enclosure. Referee McClung blew the whistle and called play at 2.08 o'clock. Harvard's supporters were full of confidence and they apparently had good grounds for their hope. Pennsylvania has not beaten Harvard since 1897, and this year Pennsylvania's eleven is far below the average. The air of over-confidence was apparent on all sides.
