Stanford White, famed architect slain by insane Harry K. Thaw, planned it. The fortune that paid for it was derived from the Chicago Tribune. It was built in 1904, the home of Editor Robert W. Patterson, who, like many of the Chicago Tribune family (Medill-McCormick-Patterson), included Washington as well as Chicago in his affairs. Editor Patterson died, his wife returned to Chicago, his daughter (Mrs. Elmer Schlesinger) took the house. Address: No. 15 Dupont Circle...
...pawky lecher and his fleshy girl-wife. There are thousands of Edward West Brownings in the U. S., but never before had one sprawled forth whose pathological condition included lust for publicity. The pornoGraphic, closely followed by its loose-lipped fellow-tabloids, the Hearst Mirror and the Patterson-McCormick Daily News, and abetted by an accommodating judge, proceeded with an exploitation to which previous obscenities-the Arbuckle, Rhinelander, Hall-Mills and Chaplin cases-seemed a prelude almost refined. At Hankow were the Isabel, Palos, Pigeon, Villalobos, Pope and Truxtun, under the immediate command of Rear Admiral Henri Hughes Hough. One warship each was standing by at Ichang, Chungking, Kiukiang, Nanking, Foochow, Canton, Wuhu, Bias Bay and Chinkiang. Ten destroyers and twelve submarines were ready at Manila, whence the destroyer Stewart sailed...
...second act is a corker. There is real drama there, too, strange as it may seem, and thrilling suspense. That haunting, beautifully-mournful Lata vian legend will chase cerie shivers up and down your back. And the mass staging is superb. Miss McCormick dances, the chorus dances, and a set of little rag dolls dance, all well...
