His father wanted him to be a plumber, but Jimmy had other ideas, and by 1921 he was on Broadway's Tin Pan Alley turning out Hinky Dinky Parlay Voo and Lone-somest Girl in Town. In 1928 he scored his first musical, Blackbirds of 1928, which contained I Can't Give You Anything But Love, Baby...
