What constitutes a nation? Among political scientists, definitions differ. Johns Hopkins' Dr. Vernon McKay says that "a nation is a group of people who have a feeling of nationhood, based on common historical tradition, common cultural interests and, usually, common language." Rutgers Professor Neil McDonald suggests that the measure of a nation is "its capacity to maintain some kind of autonomy-political and economic-against its environment." The most sensible test of a nation's viability would seem to be economic sufficiency: the ability to support its people without massive outside aid. Such is not the case nowadays...
Aloof and often sensitive to criticism, Visser 't Hooft has been primarily a scholar-diplomat, learned enough to hold his own on any divinity-school faculty. Blake, as he readily admits, is no theologian. Nonetheless, he has what President Arthur McKay of Chicago's McCormick Theological Seminary calls "an instinctive theological savvy about the issues that are facing the church." All-American fullback Cosmo Iacavazzi had graduated, as had star tailback Don McKay. But Princeton had gone unbeaten in 1964 more because of their excellent defense than the running of Iacavazzi and the passing of McKay. The Tigers had given up only eight touchdowns all season long, and most of their fine defensive line was returning. Guard Stas Maliszewski (215) had won All-American recognition in 1964, and guard Paul Savidge was All-East...
