...well established, Chow Yun Fat's popularity is questionable (he's best known for two mediocre movies in the states, The Replacement Killers and The Corruptor). This not to say that Chow Yun Fat is not a well known commodity in some circles. Aside from Sean Connery and Steve McQueen, Chow is probably the manliest man you would ever want to meet, having collaborated with director John Woo in brutal yet poetic action films like The Killer and Hard Boiled in their native home of Hong Kong. He has not, to date, had much success in acting in English, hence...

...telefuturist's grail: TV on demand. "It takes away the meaning of prime time," says Rob Enderle, an analyst at Giga Information Group. "The time a show is broadcast becomes meaningless." ReplayTV allows users to create "channels" based on search criteria, like home-improvement shows or Steve McQueen movies. TiVo lets you search by category and makes recommendations based on how you have rated other programs...

Co-creators Ryan Murphy and Gina Matthews talk excitedly about future theme issues: cheating, fame, the social pecking order (Bibb's cheerleader is named Brooke McQueen--get it?). They aim to make, as Murphy calls it, "a Zeitgeist show" that nails the teen experience du jour with rapid-response precision; they repeat "reality" and "real" like mantras...

When The Thomas Crown Affair first appeared in 1968, its most memorable scene was a sexually charged chess game between Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. Audiences will feel rooked by the remake--it lacks the original's kitschy cool--but they'll surely remember "the Dress": a black peekaboo number worn by Rene Russo that is snug as a body stocking and virtually transparent. Like the diaphanous gown Marilyn Monroe donned for J.F.K.'s birthday, Russo's outfit is a sheer delight. "The costume designer just brought it in one day, folded up to the size of a handkerchief," recalls...

Designers often more associated with whimsy than worry seemed to project some millennial anxieties at last week's couture shows in Paris. John Galliano's models, left, sported hats adorned with dead foxes and pheasants--demonstrating how Dior customers can simultaneously snare a meal and a fashion statement. Alexander McQueen at Givenchy suggested that not only supermodels but also the human race may be extinct next century, exhibiting his clothes on fiber-glass mannequins that briefly popped up from the floorboards. And Paco Rabanne illustrated his prediction that the Mir space station will kill thousands when it crash-lands...
