...York's Meadow Brook Club in 1895 a handful of U. S. "golf widows," clad in ground-sweeping skirts and cartwheel hats, staged a tournament to select a national women's golf champion. Best "golf-erine" of the day was Mrs. C. S. Brown of Shinnecock Hills who posted a score of 132 for the 18-hole, one-round tournament...

...what happened when the moon got out of whack in 1945, plunged into the Atlantic Ocean, all but wiped out Europe by tornado, earthquake and flood. The moon's havoc was less than the human havoc which followed. England, now changed from an island to a landlocked meadow on the fringe of Europe, demanded a "British Corridor" to the sea at Gibraltar, but the Corridor blocked Europe's nations from the oil and metals discovered on the fallen moon. In the wars that resulted, the Asiatic peoples revolted and completed the moon's work...

There was a Nazi demonstration last week at Tiegenhof, in the rich meadow land across the Vistula, but it scarcely compared to the turnout which had already been staged for such Nazi bigwigs as Field Marshal Hermann Göring and Deputy Führer Rudolf Hess. Last week the 20,000 polo enthusiasts sitting in Meadow Brook's turquoise-blue stands realized-a little sadly-that even this, Britain's best-of-all teams since the War (Bob Skene, Aidan Roark, Gerald Balding, Eric Tyrrell-Martin) was no match for the U. S. four: Mike Phipps, Tommy Hitchcock, Stewart Iglehart, Winston Guest. Fortnight ago, in the first of the two-out-of-three-game series, they were trounced 11-to-7. Last week the drubbing was even worse. The U. S. side won, 9-to-4, retained the Cup that has not crossed...

Three Little Fishies has verses which can be sung either in English (Down in the meadow in a little bitty pool) or in "fish talk" (Down in de meddy in a ITTY BITTY POO). The chorus can be sung only one way: Boop boop dittem dattem whattem Chu! The song, likely to cause reverse peristalsis in fastidious stomachs, is all about some "itty fitties" who "fam and dey fam" until they "taw a TARK!" (shark). Den dey fam back to deir poo. The publishers, wary of overplugging Three Little Fishies, withheld it from all but a few big orchestral names...
