...well, that’s about it, except for the new major motion picture, “In the Land of Women,” starring Meg Ryan and the O.C.’s Adam Brody. Don’t get too optimistic about this young writer, whose meager talent shot him from amateur TV writing to star-studded film writing fame too soon. Kasdan’s screenwriting and directorial debut is nothing to applaud.“In the Land of Women” is largely derivative of every other mother-daughter relationship film you?...

...approachable, and dedicated teachers, which is why undergraduates and graduate students alike are so upset when top candidates are denied tenure. Harvard’s reluctance to tenure junior professors sends these top notch teachers away and deters young, enterprising academics from coming to Harvard. In addition to facing meager tenure prospects, Harvard junior faculty tend to be underpaid compared to nationwide averages, particularly in the social and physical sciences. While some of Harvard’s antipathy towards junior professors stems from systemic flaws, most of Harvard’s problems arise from a misguided institutional attitude towards junior faculty...

But the ending is fumbling, unappealing, as Phillips summarizes every potential cause for the events that occurred, explicates each meager theme in the novel, and glorifies his own lattice of intricacies. Phillips feels the need to call attention to each of his minor themes and clever puns. Why read at all if the author is going to do all the thinking...

...Romney registers a meager 9% in TIME's poll of Republicans, but there are plenty of signs that conservatives are trying to overlook his past and fall in love. He won the straw poll at CPAC, and the endorsements are piling up. Romney has also picked up much of the political operation of Jeb Bush, who is the could-have-been candidate most longed for on the right. Money doesn't seem to be a problem either; Romney raised $6.5 million on a single National Call Day in early January. The campaign is flush enough...
