Kicking bears the same relation to football that artillery does to warfare, with the exception that it is possible in football to deliver the final stroke with kicking. What the use of artillery in modern warfare will mean in the end remains to be seen, but the comparison is made in the light of past experience. There is in kicking a unanimity of opinion not to be found in the forward pass. Kicking is not the "joker" that the forward pass is, for the reason that certain of its principles seem to be widely understood. It is the bulwark...
...three buildings, in the centre one of which are the commons and living room. There is one great kitchen, from which the three commons are served, and the occupants are required to take their meals there; the board will be about $5 a week. What this departure alone will mean to thousands of men it would be hard to exaggerate; but there are multitudes of Harvard men who will recall with a shudder their plunge into College life by way of Memorial Hall, or unfriendly boarding places, and the hopeless loneliness of the early days, without friends or ties...
...strike, like last year's dispute, is due to internal disagreements among the unions. The Bricklayers, Electrical Workers, Plasterers and Plumbers have combined against the International Marble Workers' Union, because the latter would not join with them in an agreement with The National Marble Dealers' Association. This agreement would mean that the Dealers would patronize the Marble Workers exclusively in all construction work but that the Marble Workers should not insist on union-cut marble. Since labor conditions are very bad in some of the quarries the Marble Workers could not agree to this, nor to other unfavorable terms...
...Millholland 14, and H. R. Hardwick '15. Gannett and Hardwick both played against Yale last season. Gannett has been fielding his position well, but his hitting has fallen off considerably since last season. However, he is an exceptionally good pinch hitter and may be relied upon when hits mean runs. Hardwick, who was one of the weakest hitters on the team last year, has shown wonderful improvement in this department and now stands well up in the list. Milholland was prevented from playing on the team last year because of sickness. He has fielded his position well this season...
...adage of the game, and one must admit that there is truth in it, when one considers how well the University team started the season and how soundly it was beaten by Dartmouth yesterday. However, the loss of one game or even of several games does not mean that the team is demoralized by overconfidence or poor condition. It is the inevitable slump, and a team that has showed the baseball ability displayed by Captain Wingate's nine in most of its games this year is bound to come out of its slump before long...
