Princeton jumped to a quick 7-point lead with a victory in the 400 medley relay. Krause's 1000 freestyle win narrowed the score to 11-5. Harvard put together a second and third in the 200 freestyle with Cahalan's first place finish in the 50 freestyle to draw within 6 points of the Tigers. It was the closest Harvard would come. Princeton staged its disastrous four-event sweep and the meet was over. Although taking firsts in he remaining events, the best the Crimson could do was tighten the score...

...outstanding Steve Krause won the 500-free by a margin of over two minutes in 5:05.5. Five other Harvard swimmers took firsts. Captain Marty Chalfie won the 1000-free, Steve Baumgart captured the top spot in the 200-free, Jonny Munk was first in the 200-yard individual medley, and Terry Flanagan won the 200-yard backstroke event.
