...What scientists, not to mention the rest of us, want to know is, Why? What makes us go so loony over love? Why would we bother with this elaborate exercise in fan dances and flirtations, winking and signaling, joy and sorrow? "We have only a very limited understanding of what romance is in a scientific sense," admits John Bancroft, emeritus director of the Kinsey Institute in Bloomington, Ind., a place where they know a thing or two about the way human beings pair up. But that limited understanding is expanding. The more scientists look, the more they're able...
...disappointed that you didn't mention the passing of one of the greatest film directors of our time, Michelangelo Antonioni, who died the same day Ingmar Bergman did. Muslims and Christians were free to travel throughout Israel and practice their religion in peace until radicals began attacking Israeli civilians. Hamad's need to blame someone for the horrid situation is understandable...
...Mention Dr. Judah Folkman's name to colleagues and patients and only the grandest descriptors come to their lips - words like "giant in his field," "visionary," "genius," and "ahead of his time." Credited with revolutionizing cancer treatment with the theory that preventing angiogenesis, or new blood-vessel growth, would starve tumors, the director of vascular biology at Children's Hospital and professor of pediatric surgery at Harvard Medical School died on Monday in Denver...
