...mention several groups throughout history that have used self-destructive techniques such as suicide bombings. Why is it most commonly associated with the Middle East? There have been self-destructive groups throughout history, some aggressive, such as the Zealots in ancient Israel, and some pacifistic, like the early Quakers. I even regard Gandhi as an individual who was given to self-destructive impulses. The reason for the preponderance of this phenomenon in Middle East today is not the different nature of Islamic faith or moral values. It is first and foremost the social disruptions that these parts of the world...
Your article advocates "retirement insurance" as an alternative to the 401(k) but fails to mention that such an option already exists [Oct. 19]. The variable annuity--guaranteed income throughout your retirement--is an option included in certain 401(k) plans. The government can encourage or mandate the inclusion of an insurance/annuity option in 401(k) plans but should not replace the 401(k) with such an option. His seventh and latest book, the decidedly nonpartisan A Simple Christmas: Twelve Stories That Celebrate the True Holiday Spirit (Sentinel), harks back to Huckabee's roots as a Southern Baptist minister. (Let it be noted, however, that a paperback edition of his fiercely political 2008 best...
...course for Donohue, who has shown relatively little interest in expanding corporate transparency. One of his chief innovations has been a stealth corporate advocacy program, which encourages firms to funnel funds into special chamber accounts to pay for advocacy campaigns run under the chamber's banner, without mention of the company paying for the ad or their stake in the fight...
