London would be Phelps' third Games, a mere trifle compared with teammate Dara Torres' fifth trip under the rings. Torres, who is now the second-fastest woman in the world in the 50-m free, continued to prove that age is no limit, missing the gold by the same tiny margin with which Phelps won the 100-m butterfly. "That was awesome," said de Bruijn, of Torres' race. "I've got so much respect for her. She was one of my biggest rivals when I was still swimming. She quit for many years, she had a baby, and then...

...cases, when numbers are assigned to subjective experience (e.g., "my discomfort level is now three out of 10") and plugged into an algebraic formula, they produce "rational" or "evidence-based" conclusions, which suddenly have the ring of scientific truth. As far as the evidence-based movement is concerned, heeding mere "expert opinion," from even the most successful clinician, would be akin to taking the word of a bearded man with a wand...

Next up are the 200m butterfly, in which he owns eight of the top 10 performances ever, and the 4x200m freestyle relay, in which...

...team cobbled together a mere 24 hours before they had to hit the mats, the U.S. men flowed freely as a unit during Aug. 12's team final, with Joseph Hagerty stepping in to lend his expertise on parallel bars, and Artemev adding the flair of his pommel horse routine into the mix. They also got lucky with the rotation order, pulling one of their strongest events - the still rings - first out of the six. Tan, a national champion on the rings, helped the men to reach third place after that rotation. But it wasn't until they reached...

...your 100 "Athletes To Watch," a mere two are Australian. No mention of Eamonn Sullivan, whose world record in the 50-m freestyle makes him the fastest man in the water in history. No mention of breaststroke world-record holder Liesel Jones or at least 20 other potential gold medalists from Australia. Considering Australia's small population, the disproportionate success of Australians at past Olympics, and the fact that Australia is expected to be fourth in the medal tally behind China, Russia and the U.S., you would have been justified in including the entire national Olympic team on your list...
