...your article "Undocumented and Undeterred" about immigration compelling [April 27]. It is true we are living in difficult times and on occasion this might trigger a hunt for scapegoats to blame for the economic crisis. But in the end, the only thing that will get us out of this mess is to pull together - legal and illegal, American and non-American. ...April 27]: as a former illegal worker in the U.S., I found your article on immigration compelling. It is true we are living in difficult times, but we must avoid seeking scapegoats during the economic crisis. In response to publication Tuesday of his party's own profligate claims, Conservative leader David Cameron was quick to sound contrite. Tory MPs, he thundered, "appalled" by the detail, would be made to cough up for "excessive" claims. Rules...
...houses that Swinton, 48, reigns. Part of the renown comes from her aura: slim, pale and towering, keen of features and intellect, she invests her film characters with an imperious mien that some viewers want to mess with - but they can't, because she's been there first; she's always willing to defile herself for her art. She brings a fearless commitment to all her movies, big and small, entertaining or dreadfully daunting; she'll try anything and make it work. It's a mystery how this bold, striking star-in-the-making avoided Hollywood...
