Like its self-centered protagonist, this sitcom seems born to be hated. It's laden with trendy affectations (the smug voice-over, the meta references to other series and itself). It snipes at young, pretty tube stars yet casts young, pretty Katherine Towne as a teen troublemaker looking for her birth mother after her father has answered her inquiries with "M.Y.O.B."
