...primarily for communicating--via the Web, e-mail and a built-in cell phone--this thin, trim handheld is a well-focused success. You won't find any multimedia extras, not even an MP3 player, but you will get an unheard-of 10 hours of talk time, a sturdy metal stylus and a crisp 320x320-pixel display. The AT&T service lets you download data at a reasonable 40 kbps. My only quibble: at $549, plus at least $30 a month for Web and e-mail access, plus the cost of a voice plan, the W is no bargain...

Undoubtedly, it was worth the long wait. With their fifth full-length album, this German heavy metal-turned-experimental indie band perfect the superb attention to detail and rhythmic awareness they demonstrated on 1998’s Shrink. The new album is a stunning assembly of illusive beats, eerie electronic noises and subtle, meandering melodies. Even modern primitives should know better than to do-it-yourself when there’s a Wal-Mart nearby...

...life-size replica, complete with hollows, teeth and fossil-colored paint, was en route from Los Angeles when someone walked on top of its carrying crate and fell through. The skull had been welded onto a metal stand, and the impact sent a metal pole straight through the model. Luckily, the T-Rex skull has so many natural hollows that the pole simply went through the holes. The unfortunate interloper also was unharmed. Professor of Geology and of Biology Charles Marshall, who teaches Dinosaurs, received word of the accident before the shipment arrived and was relieved to see that...

There are displays crowded into every corner, with my favorite one being the obstructed-view seat from the Boston Garden. A peeling orange metal seat is placed directly behind a column; when you sit down in it, you’re staring at a quirky little note about how there were almost 2,000 such obstructed-view seats in the old hockey rink...
