Harvard will be represented at the world championships by both Gyorffy and two-time team captain Brenda Taylor ’01. Taylor, who placed third at U.S. Nationals in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in June, ranks 16th on the world performance with a personal best of 55.46 seconds. After two years of falling short of NCAA titles against the likes of Bergqvist and U.S. Olympian Erin Aldrich of Texas, Gyorffy broke through for her first NCAA title with a 1.94-meter jump at the indoor championships in 2000. Taylor and Gyorffy have each been active in recent competition. Gyorffy placed sixth in an IAAF Golden League meet in Monaco last Friday with a 1.95-meter height—her best of the summer—and then jumped 1.89 meters to place fourth at a Grand Prix meet in London two days later.
