...YORK: Every available Coast Guard craft, including helicopters, ships and planes, were scrambling to reach an area fifgy miles south of Long Island, New York late on Wednesday night after TWA flight 800 crashed shortly after takeoff from JFK airport en route to Paris. The plane reportedly exploded in mid-air. Early Coast Guard reports mentioned life rafts and wreckage in the water, and recovery of some bodies.
