Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., was one of the first to react to the bad news. A private university known for its remarkably openhanded scholarship program and diverse student body, Wesleyan announced last week that it could no longer continue "aid-blind" admissions, accepting any qualified student regardless of ability to pay.
